ANY OF THESE SOUND FAMILIAR?

  • Are you stuck making music and not progressing?

  • Do you have 100’s of unfinished ideas on your hard drive?

  • Are you bored of listening to the same ideas over and over again and end up deleting them?

  • Is the quality of your music falling short of a professional level and not up to the standards of your favourite producers?

  • Have you tried to do it alone and watched too many tutorial videos, not progressing and feeling overwhelmed with how much there is to learn?

  • Would you like to be able to finish professional sounding music but don’t know where to start?

“If you answered yes to any of these questions, this may be the most important information you may ever read…”

As I was going through the same problems you face now my music sucked so bad, I felt like giving up!

I went to study at University to try and get better at making music but ended up doing loads of written assignments and although I learnt loads it didn’t help me speed up the process of finishing music at all.

I made loads of ideas but ended up listening to them over and over again to the point where I would get so bored with the sound of them I would end up either changing something which ended up in making it sound worse or I would just get really frustrated and delete the project.

I thought I needed to learn more things like music theory, sound design, new plug ins and equipment etc. so I watched hundreds of tutorial videos to the point where I was so overwhelmed by the amount of things I didn’t know I would lose all motivation to get in the studio and want to give up. And to make it worse all the time I wasted watching the videos which, most of it I would never remember or even use in my tracks, I wasn’t actually making or finishing any music.

Also, I had been DJing for years and considered myself to be a pretty good DJ. At this point I felt like I had gone from being a great DJ to a crappy producer. Trust me I know what good music sounds like I had bought enough of it over the years and seen loads of people go crazy to it on the dance floor. My music just wasn’t cutting it and wasn’t standing up against the quality of the music I was playing!

I knew what I wanted it to sound like in my head but just couldn’t get my tracks sounding anywhere near as good or even fully finished! I was completely stuck and didn’t have anyone I could ask for help. I did ask friends, but they would just say yeah it sounds good and I knew a few producer friends, but they were always too busy, and I didn’t feel confident enough to send them anything. I sent stuff to labels but hardly ever got a reply and when I did, they would say it’s not right for the label and would never give me any constructive feedback to help me improve my music.

I was totally demoralised and felt like a complete failure especially after the amount of time and energy I had invested into it I literally wanted to sell everything and give up.

This went on for many years until I discovered a workflow that enabled me to create solid ideas, finish them quickly and get professional feedback and support to get my tracks sounding at a professional sounding level which resulted in me getting tracks signed that I was confident to play in my DJ sets. I was getting great feedback from other DJ’s who were playing them, and it was amazing seeing people going crazy to them on the dancefloor!

HOW TO BECOME A BETTER PRODUCER

  • Find a workflow to develop solid ideas and finish tracks fast!

  • Deliberately practice so you master the processes of music production and develop your skills faster.

  • Find a mentor to give you professional feedback and support so you don’t get stuck and lose motivation.

… And today because of a few simple actions that take less than 15 minutes per day to apply, things are 10x better and my music is beyond my wildest dreams.

SAVE YOURSELF YEARS OF FRUSTRATION

So, from when I finished my music degree, it took me more than ten years of playing the same loops over and over again and I was going out of my mind. And, you know it is challenging, it took me ten years to figure out a workflow, such that I'm now at a point where I can sit down, and I can write five tracks in a week. And I can't tell you how that feels, it is just so brilliant.

I can save you ten years; I'll teach you my workflow and you can start creating solid ideas that you will love, turn them into professional sounding tracks and get more music finished.

Look, you're struggling and The reality is, it's going to take years to become a good music producer, because that's what it takes to find solutions on your own. I can get rid of that struggle for you. I can literally save you ten years and the ten years that I struggled; I'm going to give you what I discovered so you can get there faster.

It took me ten years to figure this out and that means if you carry on trying to do it on your own your life's repertoire will be six or seven songs? I can hundred X that because I'm going to get that ten years away. I think people are concerned about their legacy and what they can create, because some music producers have finished so much quality music. It's like, how do they do it? you know, and everybody wants that.

I have been DJing for 20 years and even won a Radio One DJ competition back in 2002. I have played loads of top clubs such as Ministry of Sound, so I know what makes a great track rock the dancefloor.

I am also a highly qualified music production lecturer at a higher education level with 10+ years’ experience and have coached hundreds of students using this process to finish professional sounding music in a variety of genres.

“While those tips will get you started… If you want to go deeper and really gain the longest lasting benefits, we can work hand-in-hand, using the same system that helps me and countless clients, finish loads of professional sounding music…

COURSE MODULES

Module One - Introduction and Identifying Your Sound

First of all, we deconstruct a track in your chosen genre and create an analysis to identify all of the sound elements and main structure, so you have a solid plan ready to start making your ideas

Module Two - Set Up and Preparation

Next we spend time setting up your physical and digital workspace as well as creating an Ableton starting template  so it is optimised to save you time and start making ideas quickly.

Module Three - Creating the Main Idea and Groove

Now it’s time to start creating the main idea and groove which consists of building drums, creating basslines and writing hooks. By the end of the module you will be able to write dynamic drum loops, pumping basslines and catchy hooks.

Module Four – From Idea to Arrangement & Additions to The Groove

In this module we look at techniques to develop your ideas further into a full arrangement with Intro, breakdown and drop to evaluate how your track will work. We will also be identifying what other elements are needed to support your main parts.

Module Five - Introduction to Mixing & Automation

Now you have a rough arrangement in place we will be looking at mixdown preparation and preliminary mixing techniques before we get into a full detailed arrangement. We will be focussing on the relationships between drums, bass, musical elements, vocals and any FX.

Module Six - Arranging Your Track

With an initial mixdown in place we can now start working on adding the appropriate FX and automation to make the transitions between the track flow well and keep the listeners interested through the whole track.

Module Seven - One to One Live A&R review and feedback session

During this session, you will have your own one to one personalised feedback session with artist Gary Wood and Mix Engineer Kev Smith from Foundry Mixing and Mastering. You will receive valuable feedback across all aspects of your track so far and advice on anything that could improve your track to help bring it towards completion and a good standard for submission to a label.

Module Eight - Track Finalisation to Release

In this module you will be using the feedback from your one to one A&R session to make the final changes to your track in order to get it to a releasable standard.

Module Nine - A Done for You Professional Mixdown and Mastering Service

After working through and making the final changes to your track you will receive an expert mixdown and mastering service provided by Kev Smith from Foundry Studio to take your track to the next level and to give it a competitive edge when sending to decent record labels.

You also have the option of getting your track sounding release worthy by mixing and mastering engineer Steve Mac from the legendary Rhythm Masters at a special discounted rate.

Steve has worked and mixed music for  loads of high profile artists such as Orbital, Pete Tong, Nic Fancuilli, Paul Woolford, Irvine Welsh, Danny Rampling, Yousef, Todd Terry, Marshall Jefferson, Waze & Odyssey and loads more…

He Has Also Remixed Over 400 Records!

Some of the artists include; Amy Winehouse, Kasabian, David Morales, Jamiroquai, Estelle, Barry White, Armand van Helden, INXS, Masters at Work, Michael Jackson and Cee Lo Green.

You can try and do everything yourself but it can take years to get to that level.

You need to have a professional sounding track to get noticed amongst the twenty thousand or more tracks coming out every week.

When you send your music to a label you need to have a very high quality product.

If you could choose someone to mix and master your music would you do it yourself and take ages or use someone who has mixed successful artists?

It's a NO BRAINER!

STEVE MAC

Professional Producer and Mix Engineer - Rhythm Masters

“The reason it’s good to use a mix engineer is it takes the pressure off making and finishing the records . All the big bands and artists use many people to do many jobs. That's what production is all about. The more people involved, the better the production will be. I mean could you imagine someone making a film all by themselves without any help? It’s the same with music. A lot of modern producers think they have to do everything themselves but they don’t. Mixing is a special skill and takes years and years to learn. I started out making records and released my first single in 94. I got so intrigued with learning sound and what made it work well that I ended up studying mixing for years and for a while it took over from making records. That's how I ended up being a mix engineer as well as a producer. I mix many artists' records and I have a professional studio with all the right equipment to do this plus a very good sound system and a completely controlled sound proofed room. Don’t feel pressured to do anything yourself . Mixing is the hardest part of the process”

ANYONE WHO WANTS TO PROGRESS THEIR MUSIC MAKING BEYOND JUST LEARNING MORE TECHNICAL AND SOUND DESIGN FEATURES IN ABLETON SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE

by Sam Warren

I'm a DJ and Producer, based on the south coast of the UK. I started DJing in my mid-40s and took the plunge into making my own tracks with Gary a couple of years later and have just had my first EP signed I like to make soulful groovy music that gets your hips shaking, heart soaring and your face bassing, no matter what bpm or genre and I produce my tracks using Ableton Live 10 I took a course with Gary so I could learn tips and tricks to become more effective when making music, and develop a system that speeded up my track creation. I also wanted to pick up technical skills beyond the basics, and discover different ways of doing things - ultimately to get a polished professional sound at the end of it! After taking the course I was so much more inspired and felt more confident with my music and learned loads of new ways to structure the process of music making. I also found the discipline of how to analyse professional tracks really useful - to work out how they get their sound so good. I also realised that half the battle is preparation and being organised with making music. I also learnt that programming my sounds using midi is definitely the way forward to speed things up. Before I was reliant on audio clips and hits, and just adding effects to those, but with midi the creative possibilities are endless. The coaching calls are great, as is Gary's style overall. Knowledgeable, clear, friendly and fun! I liked having short videos that weren't pitched at too basic a level, and then useful practice exercises at the end of each module I would definitely recommend working with Gary! Anyone who wants to progress their music making beyond just learning more technical/ sound design features in Ableton should take this course. It moves beyond the music itself and takes you into the psychology and organisation of making of music.

THE HELP I RECEIVED FROM GARY REALLY HELPED ME AS AN ARTIST AND MY MUSIC PRODUCTION MOVE FORWARD, FROM REALLY JUST DOING IT AS A HOBBY TO ACTUALLY GETTING REGULAR SIGNINGS AND BEING PROUD OF MY MUSIC.

by Ben Brummitt

Ben Brummitt I'm an electronic music producer and DJ and you can check out my shows through online platforms like beach radio and we get lifted radio. I make various types of house music and more recently have been working on some techno projects. I started my music production journey around ten years ago using Reason which was only as a hobby. I was pretty clueless of how a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) actually worked and didn’t even know that much about the music production process itself. Eventually, I got introduced to Ableton Live and I started taking production more seriously. I released a few tracks on various labels then ended up starting a family so kind of undid all the hard work I had been doing. I had a five year break from music to focus on my family life & work commitments then in 2019 I started getting back into music production after doing a couple of collaborations with a friend. This really helped me get the bug back for what I loved doing. That's when I got to know Gary. My intentions were to freshen up my production skills & try to take it to the next level & that's when I took a course with Gary. He showed me so many new tips & tricks & really helped me understand Ableton Live in depth and how professional sounding tracks were made. The help I received from Gary really helped me as an artist and my music production move forward, from really just doing it as a hobby to actually getting regular signings & being proud of my music. He taught me some amazing tips such as analysing tracks in the genre I was trying to create then dissecting them to identify what elements were needed in my own productions as well as working out how the tracks were arranged. These were very valuable tips in helping me progress with my own music to a professional standard. I would highly recommend Gary, not only is he a great artist but also he's a great teacher and we have become good friends. He's a very easy guy to get along with & really understands the end goal you are trying to achieve and is always there to help and support you every step of the way.

HOW MUCH MORE TIME CAN YOU AFFORD TO WASTE?

How many music production videos have you watched over the last 12 months?

How many hours of time have you wasted watching YouTube videos focussing too much on theoretical learning, and not enough on doing?

If you open your studio door, can you see your set up? How much did you pay for that computer, £300 £500… £1500 or more? How much does that MIDI keyboard that's going unused cost you… £200 or more?

… I hate to tell you this, but it's never going to change. In fact, if you don’t practice deliberately and spilt your attention between too many different areas of music production then you are going to progress at an incredibly slow rate.

And think about the bad habits you are developing by cutting corners, working slowly and not finishing much of what you started.

Look, it doesn't have to be that way… And it doesn't have to cost a fortune to correct the problem either.

The truth is… You have a mental block about working out how to progress and have become overwhelmed with too much information. It's been with you for years and you know it!

Every time you watch another YouTube video, you hope it's going to be the thing that finally helps you finish more professional sounding music.

It's important you hear this… So please read it slowly.

You don't need to struggle and do this on your own… You don't need hundreds of pounds worth of equipment and new plug ins.

You need a professional coach to provide you with detailed instruction and support to show you how to develop a workflow to finish high quality professional sounding music that you feel confident to play in your DJ sets and send to quality labels.
